Beau

Sept. 18

Beau is finished with his heartworm treatment at last and he's feeling so much better! He has discovered squirrels and reaces out each morning trying to catch one napping -- never succeeds - but the chase is so much fun!

This morning he chased one to the base of a huge old oak and watched it dart up. As it scampered away into the canopy, he followed its climb, looking utterly astonished, then swung his great head toward me as if to say:

"Wow, did you see that!"

Beau now recognizes that biscuits are treats, but he still has no idea what toys are for. Each morning he comes for an ear scratch and then rolls over for a belly rub. All these wonderful treats that he never knew before!

Sept. 20

I dropped Beau off for his neutering yesterday and watched as the technician began to lead him away. He turned once to look at me, with a hopeful tail wag, and then followed quietly after her, his great heart sinking. This morning I went to pick him up. He came out into the waiting room with his head low, uninterested in his surroundings.I crouched down and called to him.

"Hi Beau!"

His ears perked, his head came up, his great tail began to swish, his rear end began to wiggle, his eyes lighted up, and he began to prance excitedly around the room.

"It's you! Let's go home!"
