Shadow (Tag) " is doing well, he's been with us for 9 months now, seems like forever. He came to us last fall (October), our pool was closed so he just assumed that we had this hole covered with something. It was quite a surprise to him when we uncovered the pool in May. It has turned out to be his favorite place. While the pool sweep cleans the pool (we named the sweep "Snoopy" as we had no pet at the time), he herds it. Each time it tries to climb the wall of the pool Shadow runs over to where it is and makes sure it heads back down into the water. He will herd for hours at a time. As long as Snoopy is running quietly along the bottom, Shadow is content to lay down under the patio table. But as soon as Snoopy starts his climb he's off again. When the pool is full of his human sheep, Shadow herds them also, making sure they all stay in the water. We also have two yellow rubber ducks in the water, one a thermometer, the other just a rubber duck. When things get to hectic for Shadow, he reached into the water and takes out the ducks so that's two less things for him to keep an eye on. When we are playing basketball in the pool he acts as a point guard, however we have had to penalize him for goal tending (jumping in front of the basket preventing the ball from going in) he knocks the ball with his nose then takes off chasing it around the pool The ball is only about 4" in diameter and soft so with a little work he can get it in his jaw. When this happens he's off to the table and he puts the ball away. He seems confused between basketball and "keep a way"; he prefers "keep a way". |

Shep Shep is doing wonderfully. Shep recently made another move along with me, away from New Jersey. Shep is currently residing in my home set on a ranch in Missouri with my fiancé. Shep has been such an inspiration in my life - and he has always been my best friend for the years that I have had him. He helps me out greatly with the horses and farm work. He tags along to livestock auctions - and he LOVES watching all that goes along with the commotion. I have even better news - he has warmed up beautifully to meeting new people and is no longer timid in exciting and new situations. He is the friendliest and happiest sucker I have ever met - and he is a loyal, guarding companion that sticks to my side like a compadre. Every where he goes, he's followed by a string of compliments - "what a beautiful example of a Border Collie", "what a well mannered dog", and my favorite "he's so beautiful and smart". We go for long walks in the morning and evening, he tags along while I exercise horses, and we play non stop. He is never out of ear shot and is always looking for his next command. I could not have asked for a better dog... |

09/17/2006 Shep has always been my best friend - from day one. Over the last four years, we have been through a lot with one another. Shep has been my faithful riding buddy, accompanying me on many hours of trail rides or just observing during ringwork. Shep loves my horse, Justin, and Justin honestly does not seem to mind Shep at all. So, if there's one thing I can really say that Shep loves and lives for - it's to be out at the farm all day, at my side, helping me complete all the chores necessary. He's also always been a HUGE frisbee fan - or any type of toy at all. He's always ready for a second round of playtime - day or night. He likes long walks, meaty biscuits, loves his little sister Adria, digging holes, and following around the house cat. Shep, being very obedient and beautiful, always receives compliments from strangers - and that makes me real proud. We've had nonstop adventures together - moving from the East Coast to the Midwest as one of them... As I said before, Shep's my best friend and each day I am always reminded of how wonderful he is by just letting him be himself. I have never met a more loyal friend then I have in Shep. I feel safe with him by my side, I feel loved and cherished when he gives me a kiss or places his paw on my arm, and I feel as if he has taught me what life's about - Stay young, stay foolish, have fun and keep going. He still wants to play, he still wants a job to do - sadly however we are facing a time in his life, at a young 7 years old, that he's facing quite a bit of challenges himself... I have seen him grow over the years from a shy and abused dog to an accepting and outgoing individual. He still hates thunderstorms and loud noises, but he's great with children and strangers - and that's a big accomplishment. But, now, Shep is facing the hardships of PRA, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which basically equals to him only having 10% of his vision left. He can no longer play frisbee and it's still hard to play ball - but Shep seems to cope well and does not seem to notice. He's still game, even if he thinks you haven't kicked the ball - although it's long since been by him. It has been difficult to watch his eye sight steadily get worse, head traumas are more frequent as he bumps into parked vehicles, walls, furniture, you name it. I think his eye sight loss is harder on myself, then it seems to be on him - I try not restrict him in his activities unless absolutely necessary, because he stills wants to do these things and he still tries with all of his heart. We're facing a tough time right now, where his health is deteriorating, but his spirit has not dimmed any. When you look at Shep, there's this calm, peaceful, and wise expression that just radiates from his demeanor. Shep is by far the best dog I will ever have been blessed enough to have shared my life with - thank you, GLBCR, for helping Shep get a chance at a life with a family who loves and treasures him dearly. He truly is a remarkable dog. All in all, I feel blessed to have my two rescued Border Collies. They are a daily enjoyment and indulgence - Shep and Adria themselves are inseparable. (Except when Adria's swimming, Shep will only wade along the shoreline where he can touch!!) They have brought humor, fun, and security into my household. Shep plays the role of the wise old man and Adria is our slightly naive but exuberant little girl - it balances out well. Thank you very much for your services to this breed and rehoming these deserving dogs into loving forever homes. I hate to even think about the life Shep would have lived without the interception and assistance from GLBCR. You have done a great job with not only giving these abused and abandoned dogs a second chance, but having also enhanced the lives of many families. |

Jacob "Your probably wondering how our day/evening went. Well it has been fantastic! He cried at the door a few minutes after you left, but I got him to play frisbee in the yard for a bit. Then we both napped. I was on the sofa and he was on the floor next to me. He was wonderful in the car and greeted Eric with lots of wiggle. :) We had lots of playing and when he needed a break he'd go the crate in the guestroom. He ate most of his dinner. He was a bit afraid of Tom when he got home late from conferences. Once Tom stretched out on the floor he went right to him and cuddled into the crook of his arm. I just can't believe how good he is! He did spook when someone passed us on our walk, but we will work on this, and it has been a busy day with many changes. We all love him and are thrilled to have him! I'll send you another report tomorrow. Thank you soooooo much - we think this a match made in heaven! " 11/02 |

Shadow (Chris) is doing well... He already lays down when asked during meals. He is learning to sit and drop the ball when we play outside. He went with me last night when I picked up Joshua (my 6 yr. old.) He had been sitting in the back but once Joshua got into the car, he laid down and put his paws in Joshua's lap. Joshua ate it up. (Shadow certainly knows how to win people over.) Last night he laid on a small rug in Joshua's room until I went to bed. He could go anywhere in the house but that is where he chose to go... I'm also teaching him to ring a bell to go outside because he is so quiet. Thanks again. He is a wonderful, loving dog and he is a joy to have. |

Daley ...has gone to his forever home. Sad but happy to see him follow his new best friend Chris to the van & jump inside. Chris, who is 12 had sold two of his hand raised birds to be able to get Daley his own new collar, ID tags & they were on their way to PetsMart for Daley to pick out his own new toys. 11/02 |

We adopted Eddie November of 2002. We don't hesitate to tell him every day how beautiful he is and how lucky we are that he came into our lives. He has adapted to our 14 year old Beagle mix, Barney, and our 8 year old cat, Samantha, wonderfully. His happy personality has brightened our lives and he makes us laugh every day. He makes us be more active because he asks us to play with him. He patrols the back yard and keeps it free from birds. We love to watch him run and jump. We are starting Agility class January 2003 and looking forward to it. Thank you to GLBCR and Eddie's two foster homes for matching us with such a great dog. It was love at first site and he is definitely in his forever home! |

Hi, My name is Moxie (formerly Elke) and I was adopted 11/02. I have a mommy, a daddy, and even grandparents who all love me. I like to go on walks around the neighborhood (I've improved my leash behavior so much in a few short weeks). I've been out and about at a tree trimming party, a Chanukah party, and even to the vet (what a nice lady) to meet her and pick up my Interceptor. I like to sit on the couch and to follow Mommy around the house. I'm still a little shy around Daddy but we are working on gaining his trust. Thank you for finding me a forever home! Love, Moxie |
