3-5-03 Haleigh started her job at the
retirement community. She was so well behaved. One resident
was not responding well to traditional therapy and had not
spoken for two weeks ....until she met Haleigh. Upon a
visit with a young brain damaged woman, who was in a lo-bed
(fall free), Haleigh gently placed her chin on the woman's
chest. Haleigh is a natural at greeting humans in need.
When asked how often Haleigh would be "Working", Bonnie
replied, "Everyday I am!"

Haleigh
Adoption Date: 02-09-03
Foster Name: Haleigh
History:
Haleigh's story is one of the typical backyard breeder.
With little concern for Haleigh's health, her first litter
was born before she was even a year old. Then second litter
came along and her third litter arrived, shortly after
Haleigh turned 2 years old. The owners were evicted before
the third litter was old enough to be sold. The neighbors
feared the pups, along with the dam and sire, would be
abandoned. Animal Control officers confiscated Haleigh and
her pups, then contacted GLBCR. After learning Haleigh
tested positive for heartworms, she and the pups were
treated. Haleigh was also diagnosed with mild hip
dysplasia.
Update: Haleigh was adopted by a retirement
community director and her husband. They have a BC, Meg,
who works as a therapy dog. Meg and Haleigh are truly the
best of friends...start each AM by locating each other by
the bed and kissing!!!! Then rush for the downstairs and
out! Once back in, they wrestle with each other while I do
my 30 min on the treadmill! Is a hoot! ... She still is not
comfortable going in the car, hops in reluctantly, and has
managed to move my grid bars around (the separator from
them and me) so daily she ends up with me. Seems to enjoy
being at work...the residents love her and she and Meg
entertain them with their antics playing together and
chasing each other in the courtyard!"
2-15-03 Haleigh and Meg have been romping in the
snowy woods together, snuggling, and having a great time.
Meg likes to herd humans from the rear, but Haleigh insists
a canine's job is to lead. So far, Haleigh has convinced
Meg that their position is in front of the humans. Haleigh
is getting along famously with Meg and the humans. The two
girls "ganged up" on Dad for a wrestling match. When
Haleigh first came into foster care, her coat was somewhat
short, dull, and coarse from a poor diet and a lack of
proper health care. Additionally, as a side effect from the
heartworm treatment, Haleigh lost some hair. Now, a
noticeable difference in her coat is evident. It is growing
longer, getting fuller, feeling softer, and showing a
luster of shine.

Alette
Adoption Date: 1-12-03 Alette was adopted by the same
family who adopted Akira (Happy Tails 13). They are very
good at keeping in touch with us and write: Alette is a
little fire cracker keeping Annie on all fours. She is a
smart pup; she will cuddle with Akira, yet rough house with
Annie. Akira acts like a Mom, watching over Alette when
they play. If Annie gets overly playful, Akira will step in
to scold. We see more of Akira outside of her crate an into
the open with Alette being here. So the theory I had about
bring a pup in for Akira is working or just dumb luck. I
would like to think we were right.
3-5-03 Alette finished puppy classes, receiving her
first Diploma, and also won a prize...a stuffed toy. Alette
continues to be a clown playing with Annie. She plays hide
and seek with Annie, usually running under Annie's long
legs, before being detected, and hides under a bush. She is
not yet tall enough to hop into bed but when that happens I
guess we will have our own 3 Dog Nite group.
9-11-03 Alette is growing up and already thinking about
Drivers Training. There goes our insurance rates.

History: Lolli is one of Haleigh's pups.
3-7-03 Lolli is doing great! She now
weighs 22lbs, has been spayed, finished her last heartworm
medication, and goes next month for a blood test. With so
many trails close by our house, we go out walking every

day Lolli and I have become very close and my husband jokes
that he was so glad that HE wanted a dog! I told him to get
his own!!
5-9-03 Lolli is starting obedience classes
this week. It will give her the chance to socialize with
other dogs, too.

2-1-05 Esteé loved to play with
our cat when she first came to live with us. Buddha didn't
appreciate being a chew toy though, so she learned to lay
off. This summer, we brought home another kitten that
doesn't mind being chewed on in the least, as long as she
gets to snuggle with Estee's fluffy tail when she's done.
Estee loved the new kitten and everything was peaceful
until we had to move. The move was tough on our poor pooch,
she hopped from her house, to our grandparents, to a new
house with strange surroundings and new neighbor dogs. She
didn't adapt well at first, and even took to aggressively
chasing her old friends Buddha and Pixie around the house.
Then, just when we thought it was hopeless to have a
peaceful house again, we finished fencing the yard. Estee
LOVES being able to release all her pent up energy running,
no, HOPPING around her big back yard. She has made friends
with Klondike, the husky mutt next door, and is convincing
us all she is a little bit sled dog. She loves all the
snow, and every chance she gets is begging to go outside
and play. It's so funny to watch her little fuzzy self
leaping through the snow. We are glad she finally adapted
to our new house and peace has returned. We will send
updated photos of the spunky pooch soon.

Esteé 0103
Adoption Date: 1-12-03
History: Esteé is one of Haleigh's pups.
1-14-03 Esteé a real good dog and a
real sweetheart (she loves to cuddle and give kisses!).
Housebreaking is going well, we've had a couple accidents
but that's more our fault than hers. She's smart she's
figured out if she goes potty outside she gets a treat when
she comes in and she sits and
waits for the treat.
7-27-03 Esteé is doing well. She's
sassy and stubborn which makes training difficult, but for
the most part she's pretty good. We're almost done with
obedience training and on the days she wants to, she
listens well. She is a barker, and a chewer though, but
we're working on that.

2-24-05 She has turned out to be a great
dog! She's been obedience trained through the advanced
level and of course excelled. She's really smart, although
a little sassy. We've just started agility training with
her and she's loving it. We hope to start competing next
year! We've recently moved into a smaller house but it has
a huge fenced in back yard which she just loves to go out
and run and chase squirrels and bunnies. She is quite the
spoiled little fuzzy dog and we are so happy with her. Just
wanted to give you and update and let you know how much we
appreciate the part you played in her life and helping us
find her :)

Abby (Gibsi) 0103
Adoption Date: 1-8-03
Foster Name: Gibsi
Adoption Name: Abbey
History: Gibsi, now Abbey, is one of Haleigh's pups.
6-3-03 Abbey is doing great. She is still
an instigator! She greets other dogs with her "Barney Bad
Butt Bark". It is so funny! She plays so well with our
other dogs. She is doing pretty good at flyball. We are
letting her go at her own pace instead of what we would
like for her to do.
8-7-03 We were planning to attend a
flyball tournament in MI, but have a schedule conflict. I
was looking forward to showing her off. She is a very
pretty girl!

Haskin
Birth Date: 10-16-02
Disappearance Date: 1-10-03
History: Haskin is one of Haleigh's pups. During the
transport to Haskin's new home, the driver's tire blew out,
causing a rollover accident, and Haskin was thrown from the
SUV. There was no sign of injury, but Haskin was never
found by the search parties. Witnesses gathered the other
puppies and led them to safety. The driver recovered
Ippian, now Gibson, from a nearby woods. Jana jumped out
the broken front windshield, ran along the Interstate,
until finally captured with the help of the local Animal
Control and Sheriff's Department Officers. Kassi, now
Gracie, was found a few days later by a Good Samaritan and
taken to Animal Control. Our thanks to all those
volunteers, who helped organize searches, hang posters,
contact authorities, and go door-to-door hoping to find the
pup. Let's hope he found his forever home with a good and
loving family.

3-16-04 Gracie is doing really well in
our home. She loves chasing squirrels and birds and seems
to get along with the cats fairly well. We gone through
several obedience classes and took basic agility last
summer. Once it warms up again, we'll probably start again.
It seems like she really likes the interactions with all of
the other dogs in the classes and she's pretty good at it
too. She's a very spoiled dog and now sleeps on the bed
with us. Brian felt really bad about making her sleep in
the kennel even though she didn't seem to mind it. She has
a basket full of toys that she plays with every chance she
gets, as I'm sure you remember. Some of them don't even
squeak anymore but doesn't seem to bother her at all. I
attached my favorite picture it's the one I have on my
desktop. It was taken at the end of last summer.

Gracie 0203
Adoption Date: 2-8-03
Foster Name: Kassi
Adoption Name: Gracie
History: Gracie's first owners took her to obedience class,
but didn't have the time to spend with her. She was given
to friends, who didn't realize the activity level of a BC.
After three months, they surrendered her to a Humane
Society. Gracie was lost for a few days, after an accident
during transport. A Good Samaritan found her and took her
to the authorities.
Update:
Gracie's put on about 5 pounds so we can't see her ribs
anymore. Other than that, she looks like the same adorable
dog we adopted from you. She is honestly the best dog in
obedience and agility classes (please note the mother's
pride). She acts as if she has already worked all of the
obstacles before. On top of that, she seems to be getting
along better with the other dogs. She plays better and
doesn't always need to be the dominant one. I just want to
thank you once again for helping us find the perfect
addition to our family. Gracie is doing really well in our
home. She loves chasing squirrels and birds and seems to
get along with the cats fairly well. We've completed
several obedience classes and took basic agility last
summer. Once it warms up again, we'll probably start

Jana 0103
Adoption Date: 1-14-03
History: Jana, along with her 8 week old littermates, was
surrendered to a Humane Society. She was soon adopted. The
HS required pups to be altered, however during her surgery
a kidney was nicked and had to be removed. After
recovering, Jana was placed with the family. When her puppy
charm diminished, she was kept mostly outside, in a small
yard, with a short fence, and little interaction by the
family. During this time, Jana dug under the fence or
jumped over it to wander the neighborhood. Due to
neighbor's complaints, the family received a citation and
Jana was surrendered to a local Animal Control.

01/14/2003 Jana is doing fine, learning
commands, and really likes the tiny pieces of cooked
chicken we use for reward treats! She is learning that the
upholstered furniture is NOT a dog bed. She prefers the
comfort of the people furniture, but has found the dog
pillows offer more long-term comfort, as she does not have
to get "off" of them! Aaron has taken Jana on several
walks, and now has a willing subject to apply his 4 years
of 4-H dog training skills to teach her to walk on a loose
leash, sit, etc. Jana definitely wants to pull and sniff,
so he will have a good challenge this year. Jana did not
seem to believe at first that our other two dogs WERE dogs.
They certainly looked different than BCs! The small, bushy
Border Terrier is fine with her, except if Jana is
interacting with the Poodle and the BT thinks she should
protect the Poodle. [The BT is a bossy peacekeeper!] The
squirrels are providing plenty of exercise, as all three
dogs seem to agree that the yard should be kept squirrel
free. Jana loves to have children pet her and is very
friendly (but not overbearing). A friend brought her 4 and
8 year olds over to meet Jana, and the neighbor boys (1st
and 5th grades) were here this morning. Thanks for picking
out such a nice dog for us!
04/24/2003 Jana started jumping over the
4' chain link fence to wander the neighborhood. Sometimes
she herds joggers, bicycle riders, strollers, etc. If they
stand still it is fine, but these people are out for
exercise, and want to move!
Jana is improving on basic obedience commands and at 4-H
dog training, but completely ignores our commands or
pleading when she is loose. We are able to catch her by
stepping on a long shoe string attached to her collar,
luring her into the garage with treats, or by herding her
into a neighbor's fenced yard. Once caught she is very
easily approached. At the moment, we are installing a
chicken wire extension to the fence. Hopefully, the added
height will curtail her ability to leave our yard.
05/09/2007 Jana no longer actively seeks to run off. If
the door is open and unsupervised, she will take the
opportunity to walk out of it, but will mostly come back
when called. (minor miracle). She still participates in 4-H
dog training and is learning to retrieve the dumbbell this
year. She is now trustworthy enough to work off leash. She
has gone to numerous agility classes and this has helped
her learn to focus on her handler more and the other
distractions less. We enjoy having Jana as part of our
family.

Taddy Porter was named by
his foster Mom's brother-in-law after the English beer
Taddy Porter. How funny is that. Well after meeting and
getting to know his foster mom Dena I had to keep his name.
The men in my family (Taddy's new Dad and brother) said
Taddy is a girls name so they are calling him Porter. But
he is Taddy to me and I'm the important one his Mom! He is
doing remarkable wonderful! We are so happy to have him. Is
brother Lakoda (4 legged) is still jealous but is getting
use to the idea. I have a lot of new pics I will send with
the update. Taddy has come a long way and we are very proud
of him. I did my first GLBCR Transport last Saturday how
exciting it was. To be part of Roxy's travels to her new
home was such a rush! She is such a sweetie!!!! Thank you,
Edie & Taddy
