Ginger

To know Ginger is to love her. She makes friends wherever we go and doesn't have an aggressive or mean
bone in her body. Ginger loves everyone and everything and her tail is always wagging. She has almost caught ducks and squirrels when we go out walking, but everytime she gets close she stops and looks at me
like ok what do I do now. She's interested in the chase, but would never hurt another living creature. I think Ginger's most favorite form of entertainment is hanging out with her human. Sometimes I think she adopted me.

X Kip

Hello! I've been waiting to write you until I took some pictures but they will have to follow. Kip continues to gain weight (whatever it is) and you can no longer feel ribs unless you press a little. The hip bones stick out ever so slightly so he is almost there. Here's a new one: Kip is learning how to play. We play tug of war and I'll tease him with a toy so he tries to "get it". That's what I wanted pictures of. He and Glory also steal each other's toys/bones but they're so very polite about it. Kip is still a somewhat picky eater, although better. I have to keep some variety in it. He won't eat for me in the morning, so I feed him when I get home and again at about 7:00 p.m. Yesterday I took a vacation day and we went for a very long walk through the park. Two totally different dogs. Kip keeps his nose to the path like he's tracking. Glory is all about squirrels, telling me where the squirrels are, leaping in the air about them. I can't let them both off leash if it's just me and I don't know if I can trust Kip yet. He isn't going potty in the house anymore. Jamie forgot to crate him a couple of days ago and I was worried but everything was fine. Here's my best story. Kip had been waking me up in the middle of the night and since I don't sleep that well (middle age woman) I get up and take him out. I finally figured out that he was running to the couch and looking at the TV, then me, then the TV. Duh. He was waking me up to watch TV. This is too funny, but lately, he runs downstairs and doesn't even wait for me to get ready. A couple of times when I get down there, the remote control is laying between his paws. I know that he understands some connection between the two. Silly boy. Anyway, he is such a love. Still a long way to go as he doesn't always trust that Steve won't hurt him. I don't know if he was abused because Glory was sensitive to men at one time, but got over it and she was never abused. I'm enjoying Simmy's story. Anything you write is a pleasure. Kip sends his love.

Lily

Just wanted to give you an update on Lily. She's doing great here! Her confidence has soared, and she settled right in. Her Frisbee skills have also improved as she leaps through the air in attempts to catch it. Our new activity is biking as she runs right behind me. She's a perfect fit here, thank you so much!

Dutchess

11/09/2004 Hi there! Remember me? I am Dutchess; you know the really cute one... I just wanted to let you all know how I am doing. My owner Lindsay does agility with me i am a very quick learner. At the fair, I got 6th place in agility and no place in obedience. I love it here. All the room to run and a cat to chase. I am pretty much the same in looks (of course a lot cuter and bigger). I havent' quite figured out when they throw the ball that i am supposed to bring it back. I keep it instead. Madison is the other dog here and she makes it fun because we play together and have fun. I like rawhides. I know my teeth are clean because I chew so many. Well, I've got to go. I will keep in touch. Love, Dutchess.

8/9/2005 I just wanted to send you all a few pics of Dutchess this is at the 2005 St Clair County 4-H and youth fair. Dutchess is progressing nicely. even though she is just a big clown at times but we love her and will continue to send pics and let you all know how she is doing.

Trace has captured our hearts. She is a loving, gentle girl, who loves what we have to give. Lots of attention. We are so thankful to have her in our home. At first, she would not engage with us, but now we are discovering that she is a true Diva dog -- funny, smart, playful. She rides in the front seat of my car, having taken her on several car trips before the three of us had an outing. She refused to relinquish the seat to Ted, who now sits in the back. Everyone laughs when they see us go down the street. >From not coming out of the bedroom and from her pillow four months ago, I am happy to report that she feels at home everywhere in the apartment. She is no longer the shy, clingy girl she was once termed, and feels at home enough to wander from room to room at will. She has tons of toys, and goes into her basket and throws them all around to see which one she wants. She is still a bit put off by city life, and things still scare her but I know that throughout the spring and summer she will begin to get more comfortable. She now often forgets that she is afraid, and marches down the street, until she remembers she is not in the country. In the morning, when the sun comes up, she climbs up in bed with me, flips on her back with all four paws in the area, crooks her neck on my shoulder and goes back to sleep, and sometimes, yes, snores. At first we didn't think that she had a barker left, but she now barks at me when she wants to play, crouches and lunges at me. It is so funny. She smiles alot, and day by day we are discovering new and wonderful things about her. I have been thinking of changing her name to Amazing Gracie, because that is what she is graceful and amazing. She not only wiggles her tail when I come home, she wiggles her whole body, stands up on her back legs and puts her front legs on mine. What a way to end a day. She is a wonderful creature.

X Tuxedo (Domino)

I wanted you to know how much we love Tux (f/k/a/ Domino). He is a miracle of calm acceptance of everything he has encountered. But, as I told Cindy and Mindy, it's not vacant or placid unflappability that's evidence of no brains. He truly has steadiness with great brains, humor and fun behind it. In the short time since he 'joined the family, there have been many moments when all of Tux' qualities shine through. Last night, a bunch of young adults rolled into the house unexpectedly. My oldest is home from Boston University and lots of his high school friends trooped in, in addition to the friends Jo and Cam already had over. Jane, Jo and Tux dashed towards the door and I heard my son say, over the sound of voices and feet, "It's OK, guys- this one doesn't bite." (For the record, Jojo doesn't nip like Janie can, but he can be way overwhelming in response to just that sort of convergence of a group.) Tux just stood, tail wagging, in a sea of young people who were milling through the front hall. I kissed him as soon as I got him alone.Anyway, I wanted to thank you and to tell you what a wonderful being Tux is. I am so very happy that he is a part of our funny crew.

Dusty came into foster care after his owners reliquished him to a local shelter. He was adopted in December, 2003. The shelter staff fell in love with him and worked hard to get him into rescue before his time was up. A few days before Thanksgiving, he made the trip from Indiana to Michigan. Everyone he met was mpressed with his good looks and excellent manners, and he wound up meeting his new dad at the Bark Park a couple of weeks later. His "temporary" mom still claims he's the nicest dog she ever fostered.

X
X Tillie somehow lost her family and wound up in northeastern Michigan. At some point in her life, she may have been hit by a car, b/c she walks with a limp in her left front shoulder. But it doesn't slow her down in any way, and she was rescued to join a flyball team. The flyballers rejected her when they saw her limp, but Tillie's too good a dog to sit in a shelter so she came home with her rescuer and became an honorary BC. Tillie's about a year old, weighs 30# and stands about 15" at the shoulder. She's most likely a mix of Australian Cattle Dog and is a great people dog. She loves being around her family, is a first class snuggler, and is just starting to learn to play with toys. She's great around kids, other dogs and other critters. She stays around in the yard with her people and comes running as fast as she can when you call her.
