Mollie (Marlee)

Mollie is an absolutely gorgeous tri-colored female. She is sweet, energetic, well-behaved, and eager to please. Outdoors, she has a lot of energy and loves to run and jump at top speeds!! She never wanders too far though; she always comes zooming back for some love and attention before taking off again. Once she is in the house, she is calm and quiet. She is good about going to her bed, occasionally coming over to be loved on some more.

04/28/2008 Mollie was adopted by the Purdee family at the end of 2005 and lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan with them. Mollie moved back to England with her family in March 2008. Click here to see photos of Mollie in her crate getting ready to fly to England, and a picture of Mollie meeting her sister Amy in England. Amy had stayed in England with one of the Purdee adult children while his parents were in Michigan.

Update 4/5/05
I took some pictures of the kids. Herbie is such a bundle of love. The kids are helping to teach him about doggie toys,(we have a
whole basket full of them). He is starting to learn about tug-of-war,chasing a ball, and just playing with them. I think he still mostly enjoys his tummy rubs though! WE JUST LOVE HIM!

Herbie

Update 4/4/05
Good morning everyone. I have a couple of photos of our family with Herbie when we picked him up. We had a real nice weekend with him. The kids love him, and he gives them LOTS of kisses. All is going well so far. Holly and Herbie were actually laying head to head a little bit ago. That's a good sign! More to come.

Oliver

Ollie asked me to let you know that he is home now and that he has unpacked his bags. Everyone is getting along great. Tristan was a little standoffish at first. But after he snarled at Ollie and Morrow body checked him twice, he was fine. They are playing like best buds right now.  Morrow came and greeted Ollie like he was a long lost brother and then proceeded to thank us in a very sufficient manner to let us know that he was pleased with his new brother. I have pictures, but they are all butt shots right now as they were so busy playing that no one wanted to settle down for their pictures. As soon as some of the newness wears off, I will send you a picture of the
gang. He is a really great dog and we are quite happy with him.

Penny

Penny is an adorable small BC Mix Female. She is very eager to go on walks outdoors, yet equally enjoys affection and attention in the house. She is good with kids and dogs; however, she does chase cats. She is crate trained and housebroken. She enjoys playing with squeaky toys, and will "sit pretty" for a treat. She is truly a delight and would make a great companion for almost any household.

Scarlett (Checkers)

I just wanted to thank you again and tell you that everything is going so well here. I'm definitely going to call the dog Scarlett. I think it suits her and she seems to like the sound of it. I was rubbing her belly and for a minute thought about Dottie. She does have spots in many places. She seems to be really happy. We just went out back and she peed and ran right back onto the deck. I was typing an email to Carol and I noticed that Scarlett left the room. I went to the bedroom to check on her and she was sound asleep on my bed. She looked at me like, "you're not thinking of moving me elsewhere are you?" But as soon as I told her to get off, she did. She's gone into the crate a couple of times on her own. I put a blanket and a small pillow in there and she was sleeping with her head on the pillow, just like a human. Romeo sleeps with a pillow for his head too. So far she and Romeo have looked at each other briefly but no other interaction. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that all is well. She seems like she's been here forever. I have no doubt that she'll adjust just fine.

6/2/2005 Scarlett and her cousin Callie love to play tug on the rope together. They are best buddies and get so excited every time they get together. I think Romeo's even getting a little jealous. Yesterday my mom and both my sisters came over. Scarlett's never met my mom before and has only seen my sister Karen one other time, the first week of May. She was so great. She greeted everyone at the door with her big rope and a wagging tail. No growling, barking, snarling or any type of aggressive behavior whatsoever. She let them right into the house with no hesitation and waited, not very patiently, for Callie to get into the house so they could have a tug of war match. My sister Karen couldn't believe it was the same dog she met a couple of month ago and my mom wanted to know why everyone was so worried about her behavior around strangers. Needless to say, I'm delighted.

I also want to mention that her hips seem to be getting better since she's been taking glucosamine/condroitin combo everyday for about 7 weeks now. My massage therapist is going to try and work on her next week, now that she and Scarlett are such close friends. It's amazing how different things are from the first week she was here when she wouldn't let the therapists in the door. Now when they come over she knows if she's good and patient, they'll play catch with her when they're done with me. They set up the massage table and Scarlett immediately lays down directly under the table and doesn't move or make a sound until I get off the table and tell her it's okay. Then they go out in back with her and throw the ball about 10 times further than I'm able to so it's really a special treat for her. That's my update for now. I could not be happier or more grateful that we found each other. She's such a great dog and everyday she gets better and friendlier and more confident.

1/8/2006 Scarlett is finally recovered from her surgery to the point that she no longer limps, and in fact, has started to play catch again just as enthusiastically as before. I have to limit her playtime, jumping and running distance or she would go all day. She looks so silly in the area where they shaved her for the surgery. When you look at her from behind one side has long, flowing hair, while the other has short, wavy fur. It looks like some sort of innovative, trend-setting, whacky dog-do. The specialists have told me that she should have the same surgery done on her other leg fairly soon but we're taking a break for a while. My vet thinks that since she's not symptomatic and seems so much better than before the surgery that giving her some more time to heal and a chance to be a "normal" dog may very well be more beneficial for her than to start the whole process over again so soon. Also, I've increased her daily dosage of glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM and it's been very helpful. She no longer has trouble arising from any position and her tail, which originally only moved to one side when she wagged it, now effortlessly moves back and forth. I've added a homeopathic remedy called Rhus Tox which also seems to be helping.

During the holidays she and her Sheltie cousin, Callie (see photo), played together and even performed their special tricks for lots of different company. It's hard to believe that Scarlett was so fearful of strangers, to the point of aggression and Callie (also a rescue) was so timid that she'd cower in a corner, greeted everyone as if they'd known them forever. They had so much fun teaching each other new talents. Scarlett taught Callie how to vigorously shake her toys and Callie, taught Scarlett how to politely share her rope. I was at my sister's for over a week and felt awful when I had to separate them so Scarlett, Romeo (my cat) and I could get back home. Both Scarlett and Callie seemed depressed for the first couple of days after we separated them. They really had a blast together. Romeo, on the other hand, seemed delighted to be back in his own surroundings - where he is king of the world.

Kali (Addie)

History: Addie was a female pup of mixed origins. The person who owns the mother dog was told she was a Border Collie, but she looks more like a Rough Collie (Lassie). The father dog is unknown. Dolly and Toby (below) are her siblings.

06/09/2005 We renamed her "Kali" (after California and Kalispell, Montana...the two places we vacation the most) and she's one terrific puppy. Kids are her favorite thing. When I take her to my son's soccer practice, she's in heaven...200 running children!! Although, she was in heaven today when I took her for the first time to the dog park. She got to run around with some dogs and she's been sleeping all day:) Kali is one smart cookie. She's already house-trained and can sit, lie down, and shake hands. Another favorite thing she does is waking up whomever is NOT out of bed. She considers her duty. The boys have learned to shut their doors if they want to sleep in. I take her out in the morning and when she comes back inside she immediately runs upstairs to see who she can wake up. She can't imagine that anyone wouldn't be happy to see her first thing in the morning.

6/17/2005 Kali just adores kids of any kind. She loves to go to the dog park and "herd" the other dogs. She is very smart and learns quickly. She is hot-blooded and prefers the cold (hard) tile floor to the warm (soft) blanket we put out for her. She is very gentle & calm except for when she gets excited and tears around in circles like crazy -- what we call "wild thing." We hope her brother & sister are doing as well as she is. Thanks for sharing her with us.

Dolly

History: Dolly is a female pup of mixed origins. The person who owns the mother dog was told she was a Border Collie, but she looks more like a Rough Collie (Lassie). The father dog is unknown. Dolly is marked like a Border Collie, with a white ruff that doesn't quite make it all the way around. Dolly has two siblings: Kalie (Addie) above, and Toby (Yoshi) below.

09/01/2005 Enclosed are two photos of Dolly at seven months. She is a really good looking dog. People cross the street to pet her, which suits her just fine.

Toby (Yoshi)

History: Toby is a male pup of mixed origins. The person who owns the mother dog was told she was a Border Collie, but she looks more like a Rough Collie (Lassie). The father dog is unknown. Yoshi looks the most like a Border Collie, and a lot like his mother. Kali and Dolly (above) are her siblings.

6/13/2005 Toby is doing great, except his back teeth are really hurting him, they are massive teeth lol, he is massive for 4 months, he is a redish color now and just gorgous and he is so mild mannered. he weighs 37 lbs. but could be a couple more if my scales are off. He is one of the most loyal and loving dogs I have ever had, he always keeps me in sight lol, he is definately my dog !

River

Simon and his sister River were rescued from a small shelter in the Michigan Thumb area. They were taken to the shelter by a good Samaritan who had seen someone dump them out of a car. Hard to believe such an awful thing could happen to such two nice young dogs, but that's all in the past, because we've got them now. Our vet estimates them to be about five months old, and expects their adult weight to be in the range of sixty pounds. We're not sure of the mix yet -- my first guess was BC/Lab, but some speculation is pointing toward BC/Newfoundland. Both pups appear to be very good-natured -- they've gone for long car rides, been crated, and vetted, and have done nothing but wag their tails. Simon is the more playful of the two; when I met him in the tiny shelter yard, the first thing he did was bring me a tennis ball. River is a bit more mature and seems very people-oriented. So far, her favorite thing is the sit by my side and get fussed over. Both enjoy being told what good dogs they are, and that's easy to do, because they are good dogs.

Simon

I just wanted to thank you for rescuing Simon. He's a WONDERFUL LARGE LAP DOG and we LOVE him! He's been very well behaved and is adapting well to his new environment. He has a great new cage to sleep in, but he's reluctant to go in at night preferring Joshie's sofa bed. Josh has done
very well with him and is slowly warming up... (no growling, just competition for attention.) Simon has learned how to use the stairs is is
welcome to come up when he's being supervised. He is doing well, learning the property (under supervision) and house training is progressing rapidly. He had a few accidents the first day because he was so excited! Alan is here with dinner so I have to run. We'll send pictures when I get a chance to upload them. We're all VERY HAPPY!
