One day a few weeks ago I stopped at CAHS where Urusla works to drop her off a microchip. Ursula asked me to come back and take a look at something. We went to the back kennels and here was this pretty little face with the softest brown eyes smiling up as she pushed herself against the cage as hard as she could so she could be touched. Ursula said she had growled over food and would not be put up for adoption. And she had kennel cough. Needless to say a couple days later she was here. As soon as she was well enough Ursula got us back in for vaccinations and spay. Shauna originally wanted to adopt Oliver, but Gypsie Rose and Shauna are going to be a great team. This afternoon Gypsie just hopped right in the car and didn't look back. Well, all my dogs tried to leave with her! Shauna joined us on the list last week, and we live for pupdates.

6/13/2005 Moira is doing fantastic. She has adjusted wonderfully and everybody loves her. We keep hearing the comment, "Why would somebody have gotten rid of a dog like this?" We don't care why because she's ours now. She is doing just fine with the cat. While they aren't the best of friends, they more than tolerate each other. Moira just wants to play with her and does her "puppy jumping" around the cat with her tail wagging. After a short while, the cat will swat at her and Moira will jump back 5 or 6 feet and it's over. They've made great strides. Janice took her in for her wellness visit to the vet last week and she got a clean bill of health. The vet loved her and said we definitely have a keeper.

Rio (Joseph)

6/7/2005 I'm so sorry I haven't kept in touch recently! Rio has been so wonderful! He has gained 5-7 pounds, but still looks stunning... I actually think he looks better, maybe a bit more manly/tough, haha.

At potty time he sits at the door for me to put on his leash, and he will "stay" until i say "ok." You were right on when you told me to close the door if he jumps out early, it only took 1 time getting squished for him to figure it out! He is a delight in the morning, he's a delight when I get home, and he's a great buddy laying around in the evening. He really loves to nuzzle his face into me for some neck/head/ear scratching! He had one accident in the apartment, but that's because I was a bad daddy... I tested his limits by sleeping in until 11:30am... my fault. He can last until 10 on weekends without any problems, since he gets a later last call.

He has taken a serious interest in the squirrels since I've had him! He likes to try to pull me along to go get them... once in a while I'll run with him through the apartment grass just to let him give chase for a change! In light of this, I bought a toy squirrel made by the AKC, which has a great likeness... No interest whatsoever. I even put it around the corner and made little noises hoping he'd chase it... still, no interest. So then, when he was rowdy, I tried to toss it up and have it land near him... it startled him and he was no longer rowdy... several other times while we were roughhousing (which is great fun!) I tried to incorporate the squirrel or the other plush/squeaker toy... literally no interest... what an anomoly!

The stupid bank and my mortgage firm have really dropped the ball for me, so yesterday's closing has been put off *hopefully* until tomorrow [I'm furious]. I've been telling Rio about the huge yard that he's going to have, but those jokers at the bank are really testing my/our patience! Just so you don't worry, my credit is sparkling, all my finances are in great shape, it's just the rest of the players on my side that blew it (or continue to blow it). So I'm grouchy that I'm not in the house yet, but the day is coming soon enough!

I want to extend another round of thanks for setting up such a wonderful match!! I know I've had a blast with Rio, and I'm pretty sure he's enjoying my company (and I think he sheds more than any other dog I've ever seen -- I can't believe he's not bald yet!).

10/07/2005 Rio has gained 7 or 8 pounds since you had him, and he looks and feels very healthy. He's always wagging his tail unless I keep him up too late and he's tuckered out; then he passes out with watchful eyes... Once in a while I catch him dreaming, his little white feet twitching away -- too funny. Surprisingly, once he blew his undercoat, he requires almost no grooming whatsoever! His coat is shiny and beautiful, and daddy hardly has to do a thing (until next spring...!).

I had some friends over this past weekend to watch our mighty Wolverines eek out a victory against MSU, and he did very well. He begged a little bit for food, but no whining or anything like that, just the adorable puppy dog eyes. He has learned very well to go in his crate... I think he just needed time to get comfortable in his new house. I've left him out a few times, just for an hour or two at a time, but he likes to get into a bit of mischief on occasion! Nothing serious, but he'll get a hold of his treat bag and rip the ziplock seal right off, and eat his fill... I'm glad he's smart enough not to eat until he gets sick. It's funny, because he'll take his toys out to the family room when he's home alone, but he won't get anywhere near them when I'm around!! When Amy was visiting a while back, she and I left him out. When we came back, Rio had placed one of each of our shoes in the middle of the family room... I guess he missed our scents!!
