Gromit (Mahoney)08/03/2006 We adopted one of Yasmin's pups back in November of 2005. Our little Border Collie Gromit (formerly Mahoney) will turn one year old on August 16th (along with his brothers and sister). We couldn't be more thrilled to have him as part of our family. His foster mom described him as a comedian and as a happy puppy and he continues to live up to this description. He brings us a million smiles and laughs a day and I can't imagine our life without him. His laid back older brother has made good friends with him, but, I think, continues to wonder what the fun is all about. It doesn't matter to Gromit. He is just as happy accompanying us on a walk, as chasing a ball, a bird, a butterfly, or the garden hose. He went with us on a wilderness canoe trip to Northern Minnesota this summer and has turned into a great little camping/canoeing companion. He loves the water but never attempted to bail out of the boat until he was told to do so. Getting him back on land once we encouraged an afternoon swim was another story. He is also showing great promise in his beginning agility classes and if we can figure out what weave poles mean we may actually be ready to compete before he turns two. I've had people ask me what kennel I got him from and I have great fun telling them that he came from rescue. He doesn't need special papers or breeding to be the best border collie around. The attached pictures came from our canoeing adventure in July. |

Artaius (Arrow)04/29/2008 I adopted Arrow (from Yasmin's litter) and re-named him Artaius (Are-tay-us) in December 2005. We spent the next year learning obedience (I used to be an instructor so it was self-taught). At the start of summer 2007, we took a beginners agility class with the Capital City Canine Club in Lansing, MI and he did so well that they passed us into the advanced class for the second summer session. We became members of the club in October and began practicing in preparation of his first agility trial mid-November (Canine Performance Events - CPE). In the meantime, I applied to AKC for an ILP for him. They accepted him and we went to our first AKC agility trial at the beginning of December. His registered name is "Celtic Myth's Artaius" as Artaius is the Celtic God of sheep and herders. Since then we have competed in 4 more CPE agility trials and have an upcoming AKC agility trial at the end of February. He is such a smart boy - and super well behaved too! He easily picks up new commands and loves to play. He gets along well with other dogs and loves my roommate's mini-doxen, Maverick. Around water he thinks he's a lab and loves to swim! He is truly border collie in his obsessive compulsive nature about certain things - like he LOVES to chase shadows and lights :) I couldn't be happier!! Seamus (Shamus)06/28/2006 We adopted Seamus (Shamus) in March of this year (2006) and he is such a sweet heart! We have a 5 year old female (Billie) who was not happy with him at first, but it only took a week for her to quit pouting. They usually curl up on the couch together (sometimes with my son and the cat so it is very cozy!). He has fit in with our family like he was made for it. Here are two pictures, one of Seamus in profile and the other is Seamus and Billie playing on a back road near my Dad's house in Michigan. |
