Meet Peggy

BACK
Hello, MY name is Sammy, and I've been asked to tell you a little bit about MY mama, who is called Peggy. The most important thing, of course, is that she is MINE, and MINE alone, and no one else's. Well, except for Ellie (that's the dog in the other picture), but I only stand for that because Ellie was here first, and not because she chases me under the bed when I get too pushy.

Me (Sammy)
MY mama got involved with rescue after Ellie came to live with her. Ellie says she would sit at the glowing box on the desk and look at all the pictures of the dogs who didn't have homes, and her cheeks would get all wet. Ellie tried to make it better by bringing her a ball to play with, but it didn't help. There were three dogs in particular who made MY mama's cheeks wet - their names were Rone, Bozley, and Akira. After reading about them, she decided she wanted to be part of the group that was working so hard to save those sad dogs.

Now, here's the important part. She volunteered to help with transport, and to work at shows. I never saw the form, but Ellie did, and nowhere on there did it say she was going to be a foster mama. Nope, no fostering is supposed to done here at this house. Nope.

Except Eli missed his transport and needed a place to stay overnight. Then Saddles needed both a new name and a place in Michigan to meet his new family (he got both, and is now known as Satchel). Then came Kassi, who also needed a Michigan meeting, and from what I understand, had a real hard time getting here.

Then came the most important part of this whole story. Me.

Like the other dogs, I just needed an overnight stay, but I knew a good thing when I saw it. So I stayed. And stayed. And stayed. Oh, I went away for a little while, but I came back. The big dog who was here before was gone, which made me sad (even though he did one time bite MY tail), but it made MY mama even sadder. I've tried very hard to cheer her up, and I think it's working. Now, if I could just get her to stop fostering those other dogs…….

Peggy (MY Mama) at a Glance:

Sex: Girl Person

Age: Unknown (it's different every time someone asks)

Height: Tall enough to reach the cookies on top of the refrigerator

Weight: I'd ask, but she'd just make me go in MY crate.

Housetrained: NO! Persists in using the little tiled room when we have a perfectly good backyard.

Crate Trained: No, but sometimes territorial about her own bed, especially if I've been outside doing squirrel patrol in the rain.

Leash Trained: Uses leash; but is surprisingly reluctant to charge at top speed through the park. Ellie and I are working with her on this, but right now we have to pull as hard as we can to get her to go anywhere.

Good w/Kids: She tries to help me bark at the neighborhood kids, but doesn't realize that standing on the porch and yelling MY name is counter-productive.

Good w/Cats: Like I'd let any of those furballs get close enough to find out.

Good w/Dogs: Too good! You should see all the dogs she brings home, one right after the other. I have to be constantly on MY guard, or she lets them touch MY toys, or lay in the good spot under the desk.

Likes Car Rides? Yes, but can be territorial about the seat behind the wheel thingy. It's the most effective position for barking at trucks, but she seldom takes advantage of it.

Toys and Games: Throws both ball and Frisbee (Ellie taught her this). Escape Artist: All the time! She leaves me and Ellie home alone for whole hours.

Treat Motivated: Like you wouldn't believe. Can be food protective, especially of the cold stuff in cardboard cartons. She also doesn't share.

Formal Training: None. There were dogs here before me, but they did a lousy job of breaking her in. It's like I'm starting from scratch here.

Fears: Finds the whole idea of rolling on dead things terrifying. I can't understand why.

Medical Issues: None, even her nose is cold.

Foster Home: Sammy (and Ellie)

Commands: a, v
