Murphy was adopted in March, 2019. Here he is with his new dad!

So I got to go to Florida over Christmas with mom, dad, Cody, and Maggie! I was a good boy in the motorhome-either sleeping or quietly watching the landscape roll by. I was also a good camper-very little barking and polite to everyone we met. We hiked 8-9 miles every day and I matched the younger dogs mile for mile! We were boarded for three days so mom and dad could go exploring. I was courteous to the boarding staff and they couldn't say enough nice things about me. Dad would take me biking around the campground-well, he would bike and I would trot nicely next to him. Mom and I would play tennis ball fetch in the camp road and I always brought the ball back, and back, and back...

Did you know that I am a purebred Border Collie? I rock the runway with a fashion style known as smooth-coated Saddleback Sable-a throwback to my old Scottish lineage. Mom was looking at my papers several weeks back and discovered that Cody and I share the same dog mom, but almost all of my dog dads' ancestors lived in Scotland.

Mom and dad have given me freedom in the bedroom at night now-so no more sleeping in the crate! It starts out crowded on the bed because I like to snuggle with mom and get belly rubs. Sometimes I fall asleep with my head in her lap, but I normally get off to sleep on the floor in one of the dog beds.

My recall is improving as is my sit down and lay down. I am up to ten seconds for a sit-stay. I was seven years a farm dog, but I have discovered that living in the house is pretty sweet-as long as I follow the rules! The rules were bewildering at first because I didn't always get to do as I pleased. Mom says because I am a fast learner and have a sweet nature, I adapted quickly. Mom says I am a sweet boy with a calm demeanor and a good brain in my head. She calls me her "diamond in the ruff" and tells me she didn't realize how much fun it could be to have an older dog-until she got me!

Hi World! Foster mom says I have to provide my vital statistics so that I will be appealing to a forever home. So here goes:

I am a guy, I turned 7 on Thanksgiving day this year, and today I went to the vet for a weigh in: 59.5 pounds. I was 66.5 , but I lost seven pounds because mom runs a boot camp here-refuses to give me treats and measures my food. The vet says my ideal weight should be 55 pounds and mom is determined to get me there.

I am now house-trained. If I live on a big farm in the quiet country, I shouldn't need a fenced yard, but definitely a fenced yard if I live in town. Too many things to chase, and mom is afraid I will end up under the wheels of a vehicle.

I am located in central Illinois. I am crate-trained. I will do "tricks for treats" only if the treat is worth it. However, I like tennis balls, squeaky bone toys, and an old glove from my former dad. I will do almost anything for those items! I love to go for car rides and you will find me sitting very quietly and well-behaved while riding. I am good with other dogs, TBD by foster mom about kids, but NOT cats.

Mom and I are working on commands like sit down, mine, yours, kennel, time for bed, wait, stay, come here, this way, and okay. Mom says I have a real good NO, but my recall needs a lot of work.

Here is a picture of me waiting for mom to give me the squeaky bone!
