Pecan

Puppy #1 has been named "Pecan," because that's what color he is. I really liked the name "Puck," but feared getting myself into troubling when trying to rhyme the name into any of the various "dog songs" that sometimes happen around my house. Pecan was the first puppy born, and for most of the first day, I thought he was black. As you can see, he's become kind of a brown/silver mix. He's the only one of the pups who came out this color, which makes guessing the breed of the father even more difficult. His little nose is very cute; as you can see, it's just starting to get black pigment. His chest and stomach are mostly white, except for an "8" shaped patch of brown/silver fur on his breastbone.

Pecan got his name because of his color -- his fluffy coat is the same color as a pecan shell.  In addition to being the first puppy born, he is also the largest, and, as you can see from this picture, the most photogenic. Peek is a happy little guy who bounces around the puppybox, eager to wrestle with his brothers and sister, or just to try out his new legs.  He weighed almost five pounds on his "one month" birthday, and (no surprise) is usually the first pup to the dish at feeding time.

August 23

Pecan may look like he has a worried expression on his face, but he really is a happy-go-lucky little guy.   He is also turning out to be the cuddlebug of the group.  If I'm looking for a pup to sit on my lap and suck up attention while I'm watching television, he's my boy.  He continues to be the largest of the puppies, weighing nine pounds, four ounces at the six week weigh-in.  Pecan has become the favorite pup of my friend David, the guy who built the birthing center for me.  If he and his wife hadn't just adopted Dodie from the main page, I suspect Pecan would have a new home.

Coco

Adoption Pending

Coco was one of the two pups named by my friend, Eileen, who helped during the whelping process. Coco is colored just like a chocolate lab, with white feet and a white chest. She is one of the largest puppies, as well as the loudest. If someone in the whelping box is complaining about the service at the milk bar, it's usually Coco. That's a large-sized Kong in the picture with her.
August 11
Coco is easily the most outgoing of all the puppies.  It's been a full week since she figured out how to climb over the twelve inch side of the puppy play area (something even Evan hasn't managed), and now she pretty much comes and goes as she pleases.  She continues to be the loudest of the puppies, and suspect she may grow up to be quite vocal.  And she's still complaining about the service at the milk bar.  With Coco, I get the impression she's already tired of being a puppy, and can't wait to run with the big dogs.

August 23

What can I say about Miss Coco?  She has been the topic of much discussion within the group over the last week or so, and the consensus is that she is an adventerous little girl with all the makings of an alpha female.  None of the puppies are timid, but Coco seems to be especially fearless, boldly going where no puppy has gone before.  She was especially frustrated by being kept in the X-pen, but now that the pups are big enough to spend part of the day in the yard, that seems to have satisfied her desire for exploration.  For now.

Evan

Evan is the smallest of the puppies, but by no means the weakest. He holds the distinction of being the first and only pup to make his way out of the whelping box. He is a little darker than Coco, and has a lot more white. That band on his neck only goes halfway around. So far, he only has one eye open. :-)
August 11
Of all the puppies, Evan is easily the most aware of his surroundings.  He has an intense gaze, as if already fascinated with world.  If I sit down in the puppybox,  Evan is the first puppy into my lap, and he never fails to look up at me and study my face. He was the first pup out of the whelping box, and earlier today, managed an escape from the X-pen in the kitchen before I'd even had time to sit down.

August 23

Evan continues to be a little character, and he's still the first puppy to climb into my lap if the opportunity arises.  Both his appearance and his attitude are unique among the Peachy Puppies.  Evan is the only pup who has ears that stand at "half-mast," and we've been wondering if they were going to stand all the way up as he got older.  These unique ears added to the speculation about the breed of the father -- until I realized Mama Peach also has erect ears.   I've said all along that Evan is the puppy that reminds me of Peaches the most, and this just proves it.

Apple

Just Been Adopted

Apple is the other puppy Eileen named. She was the smallest at birth, but has really made up for lost time. She looks black for now, but I have a feeling she is going to have some dark brown in her coat (I don't think any of the puppies are going to stay a true BC black). As you can see in the picture, her eyes are just starting to open. She has a tiny bit of white on her nose and chin, and all four feet, as well as a white stomach and chest.
August 11
Little Miss Apple was the smallest of the puppies at birth, but she has made up for lost time and is now solidly in the middle of the pack.   She seems be getting a little bit lighter every day, and now almost looks like a tri-color.  Don't let her delicate appearance fool you -- Apple is a bit of a tomboy, and can usually be found wrestling with her brothers.

August 23

Apple continues to be our little tomboy, as you can see from the dirt on her nose in the picture.  She's also yawning, because the pups had been playing pretty hard out in the yard, and were just settling down for naptime when I came out for the photo session.  Like Pecan, Apple loves being cuddled, but that doesn't mean she won't enjoy a good game of tag or wrestling with her brothers or sisters.  I don't know if it's accidental or on purpose, but every time I bring the puppies in from outside, Apple always winds up being the last pup in the door.  I think she just likes to play in the yard!

Harry

Just Been Adopted

Harry is another pup who was supposed to be black, but is turning out to be dark brown. I tried very hard to name him "Hawthorne," but he's such a little "guy" dog that he needed a "regular guy" name. Harry (along with Coco and Pecan) is one of the biggest puppies, and generally the first one to the milk bar. He would also like to thank Ellie for letting him pose with her favorite ball.
August 11
Harry is a very personable little fellow.  Evan may be the first puppy into my lap, but Harry is always the happiest to see me.  He was the first pup to wag his tail in response to my attentions, and every time I tell him what a handsome boy he is, he wiggles with glee.  He doesn't look it because he's so fluffy, but he is actually now the smallest of the pups.  That doesn't stop him from claiming his place at mealtime, or wrestling with his siblings.  Like Apple, he appears to be turning into a tri-color.

August 23

Like Coco, fluffy little Harry is starting to show signs of a dominant personality.  That doesn't stop him from being the first one to greet me when I approach the puppy pen, or go outside to see what the little monsters are up to.  He is now the first one to the food dish, as well as the last one to leave, and just the other day I caught him "grrring" at the other puppies for getting too close to his area of the community bowl.  Harry has also discovered he can bark, which is pretty amusing.  Despite his busy schedule of playing, wrestling, and testing out his "barker," Harry still makes time to run up to me and hop into my lap for a cuddle.

Edgar

Edgar was Elvis right up until it came time to make the final decision. I really liked the name Elvis for my noisy boy, but alas, I fear he is more of an Edgar. He is the lightest color of the puppies, and until a few days ago, I thought he was the only one who didn't have white on his tail. But tonight, when I got him out into the light for the photo session, I realized that there were three, maybe four, white hairs at the very tip. Like Pecan, his coloration makes it difficult to guess who the father was.
August 11
Edgar was very difficult to photograph, and not just because he blends in so well with my kitchen cabinets.  This boy is either asleep or in motion, and is the reigning champ of the World Wide Puppy Wrestling Federation.  Edgar was the puppy who snuck out when we weren't looking, and even now, I have to keep an eye on him. Earlier this evening, I even caught him dangling off my Sammy's ear like a little blond earring. Fortunately, Sam didn't seem to mind the little guy trying to wrestle out of his weight class.

August 23

I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Edgar, because unlike his squirmy brothers and sisters, he sat still for his photo session, and I got the picture I wanted on the first try.  Pretty unusual for a guy who is usually on the go, but as I said earlier, I caught them just as they were settling down for their morning nap.  Edgar continues to be a little charmer, and is becoming more personable as he gets older.  Right now, I'm working on getting the puppies to come when I call, and Edgar is almost always the first one to turn up at my feet.  He likes to be held, but he likes to play pretty hard too -- just your average, all-around, cute little boy.

Shannon

Just Been Adopted

Shannon and Apple are the two dark colored females, and the only two puppies I have trouble telling apart. I have to look closely: Shannon has a much longer mitten on her left front paw, and Apple has more white on her chin. Shannon was the last live puppy born, and the one that nearly gave me a heart attack because I had to help deliver her. She repaid me by being the first one to open her eyes.

August 11
Little Shannon is our puppy princess. She isn't quite as outgoing as her siblings, and not quite as enthusiastic when it comes to Puppy Wrestling, but despite her delicate appearance, she is able to hold her own when she needs to. She does like to play with the stuffed animals strewn around the puppy box.  Shannon was the last live puppy born, and the one that nearly gave me a heart attack because I had to help deliver her. She repaid me by being the first one to open her eyes.  So far, she seems to be the only black and white puppy in the litter, but there is no guarantee her coat is going to stay this color.

August 23

It seems Miss Shannon took exception to being called the "puppy princess" in my last update, because she seems pretty determined to prove she's just as much of a tomboy as her sister, Apple.  Shannon would not be still for her photo, and I would probably still be out there, chasing her around with the camera if she hadn't gotten herself tangled up in the morning glories.  I'm also happy to report that Shannon is receiving the most interest of all the puppies, so there is a waiting list for people interested in adopting her.
