Jack
Gender: Male
Age: 9 Years
Foster Home: Debbie W.

Update: Jack was adopted by his foster mom in December, 2003.

Nine-year-old Jack came into rescue when the man who owned him left his wife and the wife didn't wish to keep him. During his initial vet consultation, the technician noted that he was "very attached to his mom,“ even though he had only been foster care for a few days.  When the results revealed that his heart was greatly enlarged and he was in the middle stages of congestive heart failure, his foster mom adopted him.

She writes, "“Jack did have a huge heart. The vet felt that Jack had perhaps 3 months to live.  With the right medications, good nutrition, and lots of love, he gave me 16 months.  He had very good quality of life until the last 24 hours of his life, and he passed in my arms on the way to the vet clinic. Though years have passed, every night before closing my eyes, I still ache keenly to have him say goodnight to me in the way he did every night.  He would come up to the side of my bed, press his cheek to mine, and sigh deeply.”
