GLBCR

Available for Adoption

It is our mission to find each rescued dog a Forever Home and to help you find just the right dog for your situation. Our dogs are fostered in private homes and temperament-tested for their interest in play or work as well as their compatibility with children, cats and other dogs. Because Border Collies have varying levels of energy and intensity, we must carefully match them with the appropriate home environments. Border Collies with intense working drives are not appropriate as family pets and, therefore, we strive to place them in suitable working homes.

GLBCR dogs have been fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and are on heartworm preventative. We provide an online newsgroup with advice & information, as well follow-up support for the life of your adopted dog. You may contact the foster volunteer listed for more information about a particular dog, but all interested applicants should read about our adoption process and complete an Adoption Application.

Sarah Beth

SARAH BETH

I can't say enough good things about Sarah Beth, she's just a sweet little girl that has not had the life she deserves. Sarah is approximately 9 years old and ended up in the shelter because the owner didn't want the expense and maintenance required in keeping her healthy. Thankfully $75 was "not worth" euthanizing her and she was relinquished instead. Sarah then spent a week in the shelter trying to find a rescue to fit her in during which time she had her teeth cleaned and put on medication for the skin condition that was "too much work". My first look at this darling little girl was a very fragrant dog with the saddest eyes I have seen in a long time. Her feet looked like the Dr. Seuss's Grinch and were so overgrown that the fur was packed between her toes causing them to spread when she walked. Sarah's skin was itchy and thick like an elephant's from years of scratching without relief. The fur on her belly was shaved and the skin was scaly like an incredible case of dandruff as well as beet red and weeping. The fur she did have was dull and lifeless, filled with gray undercoat that pulled out in clumps when brushed. Her first five minutes in the house included an immediate walk to the shower which helped but was not enough. Another shower followed the next day as well as finding that the odor was actually coming from her ears with subsequent cleaning. She has handled every bit of these issues like a trooper.

SUZETTE

SUZETTE

Hi Everyone,

My name is Suzy and I am back in foster care. I was adopted by a family and only after 3 weeks they decided I didn't work for their needs. They wanted me to be a therapy dog, but I wouldn't get along with new dogs very well. Foster mom and dad have been working with me a lot on this and I am getting better. They bring me to the dog park to meet new dogs. If I try to behave myself, they give me a treat! At first I didn't get that many treats, but I started to figure it out. I am still not perfect but with time and effort I will be just awesome! I love Rodeo and Cinder my foster brother and sister. I have no issues with them. I just don't like when dogs I don't know get in my grill!

I am very happy to be back with foster mom and dad. I am having fun running all over the place with my Border Buddies and life is good! There really aren't many dull moments around here. Our backyard is like a park, so I have fun chasing rabbits and other little critters. I love being outside. I also love going for walks!

I am a very easy going dog. I like to lie around the house. Relaxing is my favorite job! Of course, I do get really exited about going outside, for walks, and for car rides! I also love breakfast and dinner! I am a low energy border collie. I am great with human pets of all ages. I am also good with dogs, when given the chance to get to know them. Like I said, mom and dad have been really working hard with me and I think I am starting to understand. Of course, practice makes perfect. If you think you could be my perfect forever home, email mom foster mom. Keep checking back. More pictures will be coming soon!

Suzette is being fostered in the Mid-Michigan area.

Starbuck

STARBUCK

JUST BEEN ADOPTED

New kid in town!!

Hi.  My name is Starbuck.  The vet says I'm right around 1 year old.  I can handle that.  Foster mom says......it's okay to  be a little younger.  I'm a good natured kind of guy.  I love being around everyone.   I'm up to date on all of my shots and I'm heart worm negative.  Thank goodness because I know the heart worm treatment is very ruff on us dogs.  I'm neutered now, too.  So I'm very healthy and ready to start interviewing for my forever home.  I have some requirements, please read below:

1.    I really need a yard with a fence.  The taller the better, too. I know that if given the chance, I'd wander off.
2.    I've heard other dogs barking about obedience school.  Although, if I say so myself, I'm fairly well mannered.  I never potty in the house and I'm not overly interested in barking. Unless one of those small dogs walks buy, it's a guy thing! But I do need some help with table manners. I'm trying to remember it's not polite to put my paws up  where the humans eat their dinner.  I'm pretty smart, though.  So I think with a bit more training I can overcome these silly things.
3.   I'm okay with cats. So if you have cats, I can deal with it.  My foster brother, Dyce, said they are evil creatures that stalk new fosters at night and torture us!  But sometimes Dyce likes to cause trouble.  So far, I've been fine with foster mom's cats.  They do their thing, I do  mine. It's all good.
4.  Kids are interesting little people.  I'm very nice to them but sometimes I want to play and if they are too small.....well......I knock them down.  Otherwise, I love to give kisses.  They are just the right height!
5. I am not interested in being in a forever home where there is another dog that is aggressive.  I won't back down, cause I'm tough like that.  Otherwise, I get along really well with anyone that wants to play nice with me.
6.  After being on the streets for awhile I'd really like a home where I get belly rubs, treats, walks and lots of human contact.  I was lonely by myself.  Did I mention treats?  Oh, and one last thing.  Do you have stock in tennis balls?

Anyway, if I look like the kind of guy you could hang with for the next zillion years, please apply to Great Lakes Border Collie Rescue.   My foster mom is Kelly and we are in Waterford , Mi. Stay cool, Starbuck.

Mel

MEL

Meet Mel, you'll never find another like him.   In his 5 short years he's lost his sight and two homes thru no fault of his own.  But Mel doesn't let it ruin his day.  He's wonderful in every way, very housebroken, great with other critters.   LOVES people, there's nothing more comforting to him than your voice.    He likes walks, he likes his leash, it takes the guess work out of it for him when he's out and about.   Mel can go anywhere with you that allows dogs.    He learns his way around very quickly.  He loves being outside in the yard with the fresh air and sunshine.  He likes it when he can run across the  yard to me...I keep talking so he can hear me and he runs with a big smile on his face.  He gets all  his information from his ears and nose, he has adapted so well and just takes it all in stride.   What more could you ask for in a best friend?    Walks, car rides or even just sitting around and watching TV...He just wants to be with you. Mel is going to need a fenced yard and furniture that stays in the same place.   He likes a throw-rug path across hard floors.   I would recommend older kids. Despite his rotten luck he maintains a great outlook and love of life.   If only we could all be like him.
